Hughes, Little combine for three scoreless innings in relief
MONTGOMERY, AL – The Tennessee Smokies (35-45) lost their series finale against the Montgomery Biscuits (47-36), 2-0, Sunday afternoon at Riverwalk Stadium. The Smokies had ten hits in the loss, but were shutout for the first time since June 26.
The Biscuits scored a run in both the third and fourth inning off RHP Caleb Kilian (L, 0-1). In the third, Ruben Cardenas’ RBI single scored Xavier Edwards, and in the fifth, Niko Hulsizer scored on Chris Betts’ RBI double. Kilian allowed six hits and a walk to go with the two runs, he also struck out three in five innings.
LHP Brandon Hughes and LHP Brendon Little combined to toss three scoreless innings in relief of Kilian. Both allowed one hit and struck out two.
The Smokies had ten hits in the loss Sunday, but left ten men on base. Jared Young led the way going 3-for-4, Delvin Zinn finished 2-for-4.
The Smokies head home to begin a six game series with the Rocket City Trash Pandas on Tuesday night. First pitch is scheduled for 7:00 PM ET. Fans can hear all Smokies games by going to https://www.milb.com/tennessee/fans/audio-listen-live.
