Teams met at Soldier’s Memorial Middle School for the TNT Youth Basketball League championship games, March 5. The first champion to be crowned was in the girl’s division as the Manly Stuff Handyman Service team defeated Tazewell Drug & Express Care by the final score of 20-14 in a close and entertaining game.
The next championship game was the 13–15-year-old ballers representing Sunrise Baptist Church and A-1 Concrete. This one was exciting until the very end with Sunrise winning the championship, 42-39.
The final championship game was in the 10-12 age group with Giles falling to Paige Smity / Realty Group 23-14. Giles played with only three team members and played as equals until late in the third period. A clock error created a little controversy when the power flashed off the scoreboard and with not many people seeing it came back on with the fourth period showing. After the third period buzzer sounded, many thought the game had ended but after a conversation at the scorer’s table between coaches, game officials and the score keeper it was determined to be in error, and they played a final period. The Giles “three” played hard but lost in the end 23-14.
The Zone will have the Springdale championship results as soon as they are complete.
