Lady Panthers softball falls to rival CHS

Cumberland Gap Varsity Panthers watched the game slip away early and couldn’t recover in a 15-2 loss to Claiborne on Thursday. Claiborne scored on an error, a single by Emma Myatt, a single by Madison Lynch, and a groundout by Allie Cosby in the first inning.

The Cumberland Gap Varsity Panthers struggled to put runs on the board and had a tough time defensively containing Claiborne, giving up 15 runs.

Claiborne got things moving in the first inning. An error scored one run for Claiborne.

Claiborne scored four runs in the sixth inning. Claiborne offense in the inning was led by Lynch and Cosby, all sending runners across the plate with RBIs in the inning.

Myatt led things off on the rubber for Claiborne. The fireballer surrendered two runs on four hits over six innings, striking out 16.

Kerry Dixon led things off in the pitcher’s circle for Cumberland Gap Varsity Panthers. The righty surrendered 15 runs on 13 hits over six innings, striking out eight.

Sidney McWilliams led Cumberland Gap Varsity Panthers with three hits in three at bats. McWilliams led Cumberland Gap Varsity Panthers with three stolen bases, as they ran wild on the base paths with six stolen bases.

Claiborne collected 13 hits. Hannah Fugate, Lynch, and Myatt each collected multiple hits for Claiborne. Claiborne stole ten bases during the game as three players stole more than one. Allie Jones led the way with three. Claiborne was sure-handed in the field and didn’t commit a single error. Lynch had the most chances in the field with 15.

The Lady Panthers, Walker and Walker Construction Player of the Game was Sidney McWilliams #2 C had multiple hits and had to play catcher for the sick catcher.
