Cumberland Gap Varsity Panthers defeated Washburn 2-1, May 2 after taking the lead late in the game. The game was tied at one with Cumberland Gap Varsity Panthers batting in the top of the eighth when Alexia Norris singled on a 0-1 count, scoring one run.
The pitching was strong on both sides. Kerry Dixon struck out nine, while Tori sat down 19.
Washburn evened things up at one in the bottom of the fourth inning when an error scored one run for Washburn.
Dixon was on the rubber for Cumberland Gap Varsity Panthers. The pitcher surrendered one run on two hits over eight innings, striking out nine and walking one.
Tori started the game for Washburn. The bulldog surrendered one run on three hits over eight innings, striking out 19.
Norris, Jennabeth Wilburn, and Dixon each collected one hit to lead Cumberland Gap Varsity Panthers. Cumberland Gap Varsity Panthers tore up the base paths, as two players stole at least two bases. Wilburn led the way with four.
Washburn was sure-handed and didn’t commit a single error. abby made the most plays with 21.
The Walker and Walker Construction Player of the Game was Kerry Dixon with nine strikeouts and one earned run.Dixon also had one single while at the plate.
