Cumberland Gap, like all area high schools, have their football team on the practice field in preparation of the upcoming season.
Coach Brett McPherson and crew are focusing on the little things. McPherson told his team as soon as they took the field, July 22 that since their numbers were down, they will have to practice harder and basically do things correctly on every play. He wanted his 11 players to be better fundamentally than his opponent on both sides of the football.
McPherson’s attention to detail was evident when he would stop drills to better explain what he wanted to his players. His team responded without complaint.
The Panthers seemed to be a talented team and didn’t hesitate to make corrections when asked. The team was provided plenty of water breaks to offset the heat and humid conditions.
Cumberland Gap will have a joint practice / scrimmage against Pineville, Kentucky in two weeks.
Here are a few photos of the Panthers out on the practice field.
