Statement from Coach Smith:
“Great win for our program on the road at Gresham, a well-respected program in 3A. Gresham is an annual summer opponent for us and had been a matchup we hadn’t been competitive in. That same group beat us by 23 during the summer so we used this as a barometer to see how much we’ve improved. Winning the regular season matchup and a preseason scrimmage against a team like that is big for us in October. We had 16 assists on 20 made shots so we shared the ball at an impressive clip. We also battled through foul trouble for a long stretch in the second half. I’m beyond pleased with the collective effort from Keaton Clawson, Grayson Cook and Koalton Cupp at the 4 and 5 spot. Those three combined for 11 points and 10 rebounds. Eli Reed also provided a spark off the bench in the third quarter. We called his number and he delivered. I gave him a hug for saving us after the game. The entire locker room was happy for him. Preston Zachery continues to get more comfortable with what we’re doing. He changes the way we play and has been a big addition for us in the backcourt. Neil Bunch did what he does every game. He handled their pressure very well and got us into our offense. He’s tough. Kole Carter put together his best game of the early season and found some confidence. I thought he stuck his nose in there and made some tough plays on the defensive end. Brady Harris had a call or two not go in his favor but showed great leadership through it. I challenged him hard at halftime and he delivered. He played the final 7 minutes of the game with 4 fouls. Proud of him and the team for handling adversity. Now we prepare to start district play this week.”
The Volunteer Golf Carts Player of the game was Brady Harris with a double-double. Congratulations Brady!
