2022 Claiborne County Junior Varsity Basketball Tournament, Day 3

The Claiborne County Junior Varsity Basketball Tournament resumed for day three action, December 7, at Claiborne High School.

 

The one and only game on the schedule featured the boys game between Soldier’s Memorial Middle School and Midway. When the ball was tipped off defense was on full display. The two teams battled to a 4-2 first period lead with the Blue Devils enjoying the lead. Midway rallied back in the second period and took the lead by two points at halftime, 8-6. Midway used the third period to pull away by three points at 12-9 but it was still anyone’s game. The two teams traded baskets early in the fourth period. SMMS rallied and were down by only one nearing the four-minute mark, 14-13. SMMS then took the lead 17-14 with back-to-back baskets. Midway hit a shot bringing it to 17-16 with just over two minutes remaining.  Midway got a steal then scored seconds later to lead 18-17. SMMS hit one of two free throws to tie at 18. With 26 seconds remaining the Blue Devils were up by one and Midway had possession. Midway missed the tying free throw and SMMS went up by two and won 22-20. Leading SMMS in scoring was Colton Brewer with nine, Ty Page had five, Brayden Grimm had four and two players had two points each, Trauvon Taylor and Trevaur Taylor. Leading Midway was Aayden Bailey and Bryson Meyers with six each. Four others had two points each, Brady Rosenbalm, Landon Callahan, Jarrett Maples and Pierce Sutton. The Matt Compton State Farm Players of the Game were Colton Brewer for SMMS and Aayden Bailey along with Bryson Meyers for Midway. Congratulations to all three! Both boys and girls championships will be between H.Y. Livesay and Soldier’s Memorial Middle School Thursday night.
