The junior varsity Lady Bulldogs lost 39-30 to start off a night of basketball, February 6 at Claiborne High. Visiting Claiborne High School were the Cocke County Fighting Cocks. Four games were scheduled with the JV girls starting the action. Jacey Ferguson led the Lady Bulldogs with 13 points. Carlie Laprade had 10, Katie Hicks, Channing Buis and Emily Buchanan each had two points and Avalyn Cook dropped in one point. Katie Kickliter led the Lady Fighting Cocks with 15 points.
Next on the floor were the JV boys. 79-64 was the final score of this contest as Cocke County got their second win on the night. Brayden Painter led Claiborne in scoring with 29 points. Hunter Greer had 10, Kaden Williams had nine, Drew Epperson had six, Kris Ford had six and Aden Roark had two points. Rolande Campus had 20 for Cocke County and Cade Harris had 17.
Next on the floor were the varsity girls’ teams. 62-47 was the final score of this one as Cocke County grabbed the lead 20-11 during the opening period and never looked back. Hannah Fugate threw in 16 points to lead the Lady Bulldogs in scoring and Allie Jones had nine. Jordan Fultz had eight points as did Emma Myatt. Taylor Pressnell, Ily Bussell and Genesis bailey each added two points to the total. Blake Clevenger scored 19 for the Lady Fighting Cocks. Paige Neithammer had 17.
The Heartland Real Estate Player of the Game was Hannah Fugate. Congratulations Hannah!
Claiborne broke the Cocke County momentum during the final game of the night. The varsity Bulldogs sweated out a one-point win against the Fighting Cocks at 61-60. The first period saw a 16-16 tie, but Cocke County led at the half, 30-25. Claiborne stormed back during the third period and took a 43-40 lead into the final period. By the final buzzer, the Bulldogs had managed to get the one-point victory in an important conference game. Leading the Bulldogs in scoring was Tyler Myatt with 25 points. Ethan Cupp had 16. Brennan Fugate had eight, Jake Smith and Ethan Short had four points each and Cole Holt along with Evan Thomas dropped in two points each. Cocke County was led in scoring by Kyler Hayes with 19. Lakken France also had double figures with 14.
