CHS tennis standout, Eli England, forced to retire from regional tennis match

Eli England’s hopes of a state title faded away at regional due to a medical issue.

Eli England played in the Regional Championship match, May 15, and after winning the first set, the second set was in a tiebreak at 6-6. England was minutes away from a possible victory; however, a medical time out was issued in which England was not allowed to continue by the match paramedic.

Gatlinburg Pittman’s number one player got the win by medical forfeit and will be able to go to compete for a state title despite not winning a single set against England.

England’s parents offered this statement, “This was a devastating way for Eli to end his season, but we know he appreciates all those who have supported him, and he plans to work even harder and be back next year for his Senior year healthier and better than ever, ready to regain his titles.”

England went undefeated for the third consecutive regular season and won the district championship, but the medical issue kept him from this year’s regional championship and moving on to state.
