September 28- Claiborne hosted senior night for the Lady Bulldogs soccer team and then went on to play the Middlesboro Lady Yellow Jackets. Claiborne scored first from the leg of Sophomore Jasmin Mize. That goal was the only one of the opening 40-minutes of play. During the second half, Kolbi Mason went back-to-back-to-back with three consecutive goals giving the Lady Jackets a 3-1 advantage and putting the pressure on Claiborne. The Lady Bulldogs fought back and scored another goal, this one by Senior Riley Kiefer making it 3-2. They kept battling and almost had the tying goal with just under two minutes left but failed. The final score was 3-2 in a very physical contest.
Lady Jacket’s Coach Mason was asked about the win following the game and he declined to comment at first, stating that he was angry at the way Claiborne’s players had treated his team. Mason later apologized and said this, “I was just upset at how the game went, it was too physical at times, but the officials let them play until the last five minutes and then tried to get a handle on it. I mean, call it that way from the start, not just the last five minutes.”
He went on to say it was a good win for his team and he was proud of the way they played. Lady Bulldogs Coach Jeff Sorke also stated that the game got too physical at times.
The First Century Bank Players of the Game were Kiefer and Mize.
