CHS 49-Cherokee 41
Claiborne’s Lady Bulldogs battled Cherokee’s Lady Chiefs in the opening game hosted by Claiborne High School. Cherokee took the lead during the first period and led at the half, 24-21. The Lady Bulldogs rallied in the third and outscored Cherokee, 11-5 to take the lead 32-29 going into the final period. Despite being issued two technical fouls, one on Coach Sorke and another one on a player, in the second half, CHS was able to hold on to the lead and won, 49-44. Leading Claiborne in scoring was Brinkley Hollin with 17, Allie Jones had nine, Jacey Ferguson had seven important points, Channing Buis had six, Ily Bussell and Emily Buchanan both had four and Carley Hall had two points. Cherokee was led once again by Ava Morgan with 19 points. Lilly Henley scored 10, Ariel Ferrell had six, Brooke Nelson had five, Gabi Catron had three and Meredith Moses scored one. * All scores are unofficial.
The Nichole Goins, Realtor, Heartland Real Estate Players of the game were Hollin and Ferguson. Ferguson came off the bench in the second and scored seven points to keep CHS close.
The Lady Bulldogs will now move to game two, Saturday, to do battle with the Lady Green Devils at 3:00 p.m. and on the boy’s side of the bracket CHS will play Grainger at 7:30, tentatively.
