Thomas Walker takes down Panthers, 35-8

Updated: August 30- Cumberland Gap wanted to get in the win column when they traveled to Thomas Walker in Virginia.

Allen Brooks started the game in the QB spot for an injured Noah Meyer. Thomas Walker received the kickoff and fumbled on their very first play, but recovered and followed it up with 60-yard TD pass; the point after was no good, (6-0). They also had an end-around TD run from their own 45 shortly thereafter, (13-0).
The Panthers offense didn’t really do anything, but their defense had a nice goal line stand at the 0:30 mark.

During the second quarter, the teams traded possessions until Aiden “Sticky Fingers” Peters struck again with an interception at about the 5:00 mark. After trading possessions, the score at the half was 13-0 in favor of the Pioneers.

During the third quarter, The Gap received and fumbled the ball over to the Pioneers who scored again on a big run and completed a two-point conversion., 21-0.

Thomas Walker missed the ball on the ensuing kickoff and were penalized for an improper onside kick. The Panthers took over at the 45 but couldn’t convert.

Thomas Walker then ran 55-yards for another touchdown and following the point after led 28-0.

Minutes later, the Pioneers completed a 50-yard pass to the Panthers one-yard line, but Jaden Pearman forced a fumble and recovered but the offense had to punt.

The fourth quarter was a flag fest. It began with
A 30-yard TD run with a good point after pushing the score to 35-0. At the 6:12 mark, Cumberland Gap scored its only touchdown when Hunter Sturgill ran 20-yards for the touchdown. The two-point conversion was good making the scoreboard read, 35-8.

There were no other scores but with 4:54 left, the Gap defense forced a loss that was negated by two unsportsmanlike penalties, resulting in a Thomas Walker first down. Both sides had overflowing emotions as the game was winding down. The final score was 35-8. The Panthers (0-2) will be looking for their first win on the season as they host South Greene, September 6.   – CB & AE
