2024 Claiborne County JV Basketball Tournament, Championship and Consolation games

December 12- The first game of day four was a consolation game between H.Y. Livesay Lady Eagles and the Soldier’s Memorial Middle School Lady Blue Devils. This one was tied at two after the first period, but the Lady Eagles outscored SMMS 6-1 in the second to lead at the half, 8-3. Livesay stayed ahead during the third period and led 10-3. SMMS scored the only points during the final period but fell to H.Y., 10-5. Leading Livesay in scoring was Carlie Jones with six. Josie Lawson had four. SMMS was led by Abby Lovin and Ily Masingo both with two. Natalie Campbell had one. The Lady Eagles finished third, and SMMS finished fourth.

The second game of the night was the boys’ consolation game between H.Y. Livesay and Springdale. The Eagles and Owls went back and forth on the scoreboard, and at the half, the game was tied at nine. The Eagles began the third with a 3-0 run, making it 12-9. Springdale tied it again, this time at 12. At the end of three, the Owls led by one at 17-16. Livesay came back and took the lead with 4:08 remaining, 20-19. In the end, the Owls won an exciting contest, and the third-place trophy, 32-30. Leading Springdale in scoring was Isiah Keiter with 10. Tai Russell finished with six as did Walker Combs. Jack Essary had five, Thomas McGinnis had three, and Cruz Poore had two. The Eagles were led by Jaxson Dixson with 12, Norris Cadle had nine, Teagan May had six, Brycen Miracle scored two, and Sawyer Cook finished with one.
Finally, it was time for the junior varsity girls’ championship game between Springdale and Midway.  This one began like the previous game did. It was back and forth with Springdale leading 7-6 after one. Springdale dropped in six points to start the second period, 13-6, before Midway scored. The play was physical under the rim, and the officials let them play. At the half, the Lady Owls had pulled out to a 19-11 lead. The Lady Red Devils dropped in the first two points of the second half, but the Lady Owls responded with a traditional three-point play. With three minutes left in the third Springdale made a run and led 30-14. Going into the final period, the Lady Owls led 32-19. The Lady Red Devils never quit, and at the 2:04 was back in it at 34-23. The Midway defense stepped it up during the final minutes, but it wasn’t enough to complete the comeback.  The Lady Owls were the 2024 Claiborne County JV Basketball Tournament Champions. The final score was 36-23. Midway earned the runner up trophy. Bristol Stone shined bright for Springdale leading her team in scoring with 20. Madison Parrish had 10, Jayden Dalton had four and Adelyn Williams had two. Midway was led in scoring by McKinley Miracle with 12. Tori Spurlock had nine and Kailyn Williams finished with two.
The final game was the boys’ championship between Midway and Soldier’s Memorial Middle School.  It was the Red Devils making the scoreboard change early as they led 7-2. The Red Devils had a swarming defense that stepped in front of nearly every SMMS pass during the opening period. Midway led after one, 16-5.   The Blue Devils stayed within 10-points but each time they got closer, Midway would counter with a run of their own. With 1:26 left in the opening half, Midway led 35-13. At the half, the Red Devils led 37-15. Coming out of the break, Midway stayed red hot and by the end of the period led 45-20.  Midway went to the bench in the fourth but won the game 49-34. Leading Midway was Bryce England with an outstanding 25 points. Landon Callahan and Josiah Francis both had nine. Barrett Farmer had four and Ryan Treece had two. For SMMS, Jacob Goodin had 18, Braxton Lovin had 10, Noah Chumley had four and Ethan Goins had two.
