December 9- Cumberland Gap was the location of the Claiborne County JV Middle School Basketball Tournament hosted by Clairfield. The first game featured Soldier’s Memorial versus Forge Ridge. The Lady Blue Devils grabbed the lead in the second period on a basket by Ily Masingo and that basket accounted for all the scoring. SMMS team members include Rose Hill, Abby Lovin, Chloe Day, Willow Goodin, Harper Russell and Natalie Campbell. Forge Ridge team members include Gracelyn Powers, Paislee Parker, Sophey Wilson, Violet Bridges, Charli Redmond, Arabella Mize, Harper Leach and Riley Jones.
Game two featured Springdale and Powell Valley on the boy’s side of the bracket. Springdale jumped out front early and led 7-2 after the first period. They increased their lead to 16-5 at the half. They continued to put the ball in the net, winning 32-21. Cruz Poore led Springdale with 10, Walker Combs had six, Jack Essary had four as did Isaiah Keiter, Garrett Parrish had two as did Thomas McGinnis and Tai Russell. Eli Asher and Jase Gray finished with one point. Other team members include Jaxson Hayes, Silas Poore, Jacoby Lawson, For Powell Valley, Caleb Harp led with 10, Kage Goins had three as did Brantley Bradinburg. Ryder Richardson, Travis Dunn and Knox Couch each had two. Carson McDonald had one. Other team members include Aaron Harp, Kylix Hatfield, Jaxon Mize, Bryler Medley, Jase Medley and Gabe Robertson.
