September 5- The Claiborne Middle School football team hosted Horace Maynard Middle School on the football field at Claiborne High. The Red Devils had a huge team, almost doubling the size of the Bulldogs. The scoring started early for the Red Devils as they scored 22 unanswered before Claiborne found the end zone on a pass from Nate Carmack to Drake Hutson. The conversion was good by Trevaur Taylor, and the score was 22-8. The Red Devils kept scoring and led 42-8 until the last few seconds of the opening half. Taylor ran one in as time expired in the first half and after the conversion, Claiborne trailed 42-16.
At the half, the Bulldogs cheer team tried to get the fans fired up. The Bulldogs’ defense didn’t allow any scores in the third, but the offense didn’t add points either. One play into the fourth quarter, Taylor struck again but the conversion failed, 42-22. The Red Devils scored one last time when Ford broke loose for another touchdown, but the conversion attempt failed. Claiborne battled hard but the Red Devils went south with a 48-22 victory.
