January 7- Cumberland Gap played host to Union County in three games of basketball. The first game was the junior varsity boy’s game. Cumberland Gap led after one period of play, 14-10 and went on to win 42-35. Eli Reed shined tonight. Reed dropped in 14 points and led his team. Luke Lloyd had eight, Braden Lane and Gavin Surber had six each, Hunter Ellison had four as did Grayson Cook. The Patriots were led by Max Corum with 19. Luke Williams had eight, and Jaxon Bailey, along with Janson Shepard, both finished with four.
Next on the floor were the Lady Panthers and Lady Patriots. Union County jumped ahead 12-8 after one period of play and led by four at the half, 20-16. Cumberland Gap battled and had an opportunity at the end of the game to get a win, but the shots didn’t fall, and they lost by two points, 40-38. Hayden Beeler dropped in 17, Jayla Bailey, Callie Hoskins, and Abby Peters all scored six. Jenna Middleton had two, and Ashlynn Roberts scored one. Kyla Collins led the Lady Patriots to victory with 17. Kelsey Holt had 16. Callie Williams had three, Kailei Beeler had two as did Savanna Bannister. The Nichole Goins, Heartland Real Estate Player of the Game was Hayden Beeler.
