April 14- The Claiborne Athletics Middle School baseball team hosted rival Cumberland Gap Middle on the diamond at Claiborne High School. Before this game began, the eighth graders were honored for their contributions to the program.
Cumberland Gap manufactured the initial run of the game, but in the bottom of the second, it was the Athletics finding home plate highlighted by an inside the park homerun that scored three runs. At the end of two, the Athletics led 7-1.
The Gap rallied a bit during the top of the third and added another run to make it 7-2.
The Athletics then took a 9-2 lead and added two more on another inside the park homer, making the scoreboard read 11-2.
The Athletics scored three runs late to enact the run rule and take home a “W” with the final score of 14-2.
