Cumberland Gap sweeps Claiborne

February 13- Cumberland Gap traveled across Powell River and into the land of the Bulldogs. With three games on schedule, Claiborne was looking to spring an upset. Also, Claiborne held their senior night recognizing them for their hard work and dedication to the program.  *All individual scores are unofficial, please check with team book for official individual scores.

The JV boys game started the night, and it was close at the half, 34-30 but the Panthers behind 24 points from Korbin Goins and 19 from Braden Lane, and 12 from Luke Lloyd rolled to a 72-54 victory. Colby Weaver had nine, Hunter Ellison had four, Kasen Adams and Nate Bain each had two. Claiborne was led by Eric Ferguson with 18 and Robbie Wilmoth with 12. Chace Robinette had six, Brayden Grim had four, Brady Rosenbalm and Noah Burke had three each and three others had two including Braeden Bennett, Harrison Whitaker and Pierce Sutton.

The first of two varsity games featured the Lady Bulldogs versus the Lady Panthers. It was all Cumberland Gap until the third period. Claiborne had the game tied at 34 going into the final period. In the end, the Lady Panthers won 51-49 in a great game. Jayla Bailey had 14, Kelly Hatfield and Jenna Middleton had 13 each. Audrey Turpin and Allie Owens both had four and Peyton Owens scored three. Hope Cole had 13 for CHS, Emily Buchanan had 12, Jacey Ferguson had 11. Emma Ferguson had seven, Rhea Ware had three and Maci Short had two.

The final game was the boys’ varsity. Cumberland Gap led 19-16 after one and Claiborne led 32-30 at the half. The Bulldogs led by seven after three periods and at the end of the fourth, Neil Bunch hit a near half court three at the buzzer. Tied at 63, Cumberland Gap grabbed the lead and took home the victory at 74-68 in a barnburner of a game. An injury to Brady Harris stunned the crowd as he went down to a lower leg injury. Harris had 11 points. Kolton Goins led his team with 21, Gabe Daniels had 15, Neil Bunch had 12, Keaton Clawson had seven including big free throws at the end. Luke Lloyd had six, and Gavin Surber had two. Conner King had 17, Kaden Williams and Drew Epperson both had 16. Kris Ford had 13, and Chace Robinette had three.
