Claiborne High School football traveled to Grainger to play a non-district game against the Grizzlies. Cold weather had finally arrived and the field was in the process of turning from green to brown.
Grainger found the scoring to be rather difficult in the first half as the Claiborne defense was doing a great job slowing down a very good offense. The Grizzlies managed to score 13 and Claiborne never found the end zone in the first half.
Leading 13-0, the Grizzlies had found something in the running game during the break that worked well and allowed them to score more often. It was 27-0 before the Bulldogs finally found pay dirt on a Landen Wilson quarterback sneak. Josh Bolton ran in the two point conversion and the scoreboard was now showing 27-8.
Grainger kept running the ball and breaking long runs that ended in yet another score but the point after try was off the mark. Down by 26 points in the fourth quarter the Bulldogs never gave up. Bolton and Isaac Daniels spearheaded another drive with some great running and Bolton outran the defense to score the Bulldogs second touch of the night. Bolton was flagged for unsportsmanlike conduct as he showed a peace sign to his defender while crossing the goal line. After the mark off for the penalty, a long two point conversion attempt failed and the scoreboard read 34-14. There would be no more scoring from either team and the game ended 34-14.
With the win Grainger improved its record to 5-5 while the loss left Claiborne winless with only one game to go; Cumberland Gap.
