Midway hosted Forge Ridge to open the middle school basketball regular season, October 25. The first game of four was the JV girls.
The Lady Dragons were aggressive to the hoop and led at the half, 6-1. During the second half, Midway’s Lady Red Devils stormed back and had it down to three points going into the final period. The Lady Dragons had enough of the Midway comeback and ran on away to a 14-5 victory. Ryleigh Sturgill scored all 14 for Forge Ridge. Chloe Holt led Midway with three and Keylee Shoffner had two.
Next up were the JV boys. The Red Devils scored off the tip and made a 10 point run before the first period had ended. Midway defended well in the second period and dropped in six more to lead 16-0 at the half.
The Dragons got going in the third and fourth but Midway kept scoring enough to win 25-13. Truett Tolliver led Midway with eight, Noah Burke has six, Lane Epperson four, Aayden Bailey had four, Landan Callahan had two and Brady Rosenbalm had one point. Forge Ridge was led by Kannan Adams with nine and Joseph Petty with four.
The first of two varsity games belonged to the girls teams. Midway took a two point lead early but the Lady Dragons hit five unanswered points to lead after one period, 5-2. Forge Ridge rolled on out with great defense leading the way. The score at the half was 16-3. During the second half, Forge Ridge’s defense remained stingy and they turned that effort into points at the other end. The Lady Dragons charged ahead and won the game, 33-12. Gracie Barton had 19 to lead the Lady Dragons. Kaydence Davis had 11 and Macy England had two. Maybree Collingsworth had a single point. Midway was led by Jadyn Meyers with five, Sienna Wilson with four and Layla Arnwine with three.
The final game of the night was the boys varsity game and Forge Ridge looked to have an edge in overall team length. Midway opened the game with two three pointers plus pressure defense. The Dragons ripped off nine unanswered and were leading by one going into the second period, 9-8. Forge Ridge kept scoring and by the half led Midway, 24-12.
Midway clawed back in the game and had the score down to nine points but as the period was coming to an end the Dragons added a three that Midway matched. The score after three periods was 33-24.
Forge Ridge extended their advantage during the final period but the Red Devils never gave up. With only seconds left in the game, Midway’s Kaden Williams hit the floor with an injury around his hip area. The game was stopped and then made official by the referees. The final score was 40-32 with the Dragons getting the win but prayers were being sent up for Williams who was taken for x-rays and treatment. Williams had 19, Braeden Bennett had six, Dizel Ford finished with four and Jeffery Holt had two. The Dragons were led by Cole Adams with 13, Gabriel Daniels had 11, Austin Michael with six, Gavin Surber had five and Colton Jones had four.
