Cumberland Gap and Alcoa battle on the hardwood

Cumberland Gap and Alcoa played three games of basketball at Cumberland Gap High School, January 21. Up first were the junior varsity Panthers.

Alcoa won the game 55-35 after leading at the half 23-20. Kaleb Powers led the home team with 11, Noah Yonts and Gavin Owens both had five, Ethan Powell and Braden Painter both had four, Isaac Brown had three and Hudson Harris had two. Eli Owens led Alcoa with 18 and Brady Haun had 11.

Next were the varsity girl’s teams and Alcoa won this one by 10 at 54-44. The two teams played as equals during the opening half, both scored 21. The Lady Panthers lost the pace during the final two periods allowing Alcoa to get the win. Kylie Fultz had another great game scoring 14 to lead the team. Emrey Glover scored 13, Jaden Brock had nine, Gracie Nash had six and Abbie Fultz had two. Macie Riggs was lights-out for Alcoa as she dropped in 32 points. Karli Haworth also had double-figures with 18.

The final game of the night was the varsity boy’s game. Alcoa led 36-20 at the half and rolled away from the Panthers to win 72-41. Hyrum Hinckley had his third solid game in a row scoring the basketball and had 12 points. Aiden Jackson and Trace Provins both had eight, Lance Owens had seven, Kaleb Powers had three, Gavin Owens had two and Ethan Powell had one point. Jahvin Carter led Alcoa with 15, Jordan Harris and Terrance Dorsey each had 12 and A.J. Love also got double-figures with 11.
