The Lady Eagles from H.Y. Livesay rolled through the regular season, county tournament, district tournament and were on their way to contend for a state title when Oliver Springs took a six-point win at 38-32, January 31. The Lady Eagles were led in scoring by Brinkley Hollin with 10 points, Jayla Bailey and Jaylee Hayes both had nine and the total was completed by Jenna Middleton with four points. Bailey Barger led Oliver Springs with an outstanding performance and 22 points.
The Lady Eagles made a big run late and outscored their opponent 17-16 during the final period but it wasn’t enough to complete the comeback.
Although the loss was a season ending one, the Lady Eagles have lots of achievements to be proud of. Coach Evans offered this statement, “I can’t say enough great things about this team. They are a wonderful group of talented young ladies, and I’ve been so blessed to be a small part of their journey. They’ve worked extremely hard this year and have been so fun to coach and watch grow throughout the year. Their effort and hustle are unrivaled, they play unselfish are always willing to do what the team needs. We had a season to remember with a regular season record of 20-0. Unfortunately, things didn’t end the way we wanted them to. But these girls have a bright future, especially if they all stay together! Teams like this don’t come through often! So very proud of this team!”
