Claiborne shuts out Campbell County, 12-0

A beautiful late winter evening greeted the baseball Bulldogs as they welcomed Campbell County for a scrimmage game versus the Cougars.

Taking the mound for the Bulldogs was Sunny Smith and he showed some first game nerves. He issued two walks, struck out two and then struck out the third batter. The Cougars left two on base.

At the plate, Dylan Foster hit a double then stretched it out to a triple with heads up base running. Challen Massengill hit an RBI double, and Trace Davis reached on an error. Joe Houser and Ty Pryse had RBI’s pushing Claiborne on ahead 3-0 after one.

Back on the mound, Smith struck out the first two before Campbell got two on the base pads. The third out was a drive to second played by Pryse and the put out was recorded at first.

During the Bulldogs half of the second, Foster reached and then stole second. Massengill hit an RBI double and pushed the score out to 4-0. Davis doubled to plate another run, 5-0. After two innings, CHS led 5-0.

Smith took the mound for the third inning and walked the first, struck out the second, walked the third and with two on base Smith got the second out via strike out. Smith got the third strike looking and Davis tagged him out to complete the “K”. The score remained 5-0.

During the Bulldogs half of the third, Claiborne did not have a base runner.

At the top of the fourth, Tyler Myatt took the mound in place of Smith and struck out the first two and got the third out via pop-up to Zack Bailey.  The score remained 5-0.

In the bottom of the fourth, Massengill had an RBI single to score the Bulldogs sixth run. Massengill later scored on a passed third strike making it 7-0. Davis scored on a passed ball, 8-0. Claiborne left two on the base pads.

During the top of the fifth, Myatt returned to the mound and retired the Cougars in order.
During the bottom of the fifth, the Bulldogs went down in order.

At the top of the sixth, Myatt mowed down the Cougar batters and didn’t allow a base runner.

Later at the plate, Myatt blasted a three-run shot with one out and increased the score out to 11-0. Pryse hit a tall pop fly between first and second that the Cougars mishandled and run number 12 was plated.

Claiborne only needed to record three outs to end the game and did just that behind the lock down pitching of Myatt.
