Cumberland Gap Varsity Panthers fell behind early and couldn’t come back in a 15-6 loss to Washburn on Monday. Washburn took the lead on a stolen base in the first inning.
Despite the loss, Cumberland Gap Varsity Panthers did collect three hits in the high-scoring affair. Unfortunately, Washburn had nine hits on the way to victory.
Washburn fired up the offense in the first inning.
Cumberland Gap Varsity Panthers put up four runs in the third inning. Cumberland Gap Varsity Panthers offense in the inning was led by Sidney McWilliams, Hayden Beeler, Lacey Gulley, and Kerry Dixon, all sending runners across the plate with RBIs in the inning.
Washburn scored four runs in the fifth inning. The big inning for Washburn came thanks to an error on a ball put in play by tori and haley and a double by abby.
tori led things off in the pitcher’s circle for Washburn. undefined went six innings, allowing six runs on three hits and striking out 14.
Dixon toed the rubber for Cumberland Gap Varsity Panthers. Dixon surrendered nine runs on six hits over three and two-thirds innings, striking out four. Gulley threw two and a third innings out of the bullpen.
Alexia Norris, McWilliams, and Halle Greene all had one hit to lead Cumberland Gap Varsity Panthers.
Washburn saw the ball well today, racking up nine hits in the game. abby and hannah each collected multiple hits for Washburn. Washburn didn’t commit a single error in the field. gracey had the most chances in the field with eight.
