The Claiborne High School Bulldogs football team has the helmets on and are starting the preparations for the 2022 season. The pads don’t come on until next week but the coaches are making the best of it. When looking at the field now, it’s amazing to think that it will be ready for play by the start of the season.
The Zone asked Coach Nathan Medlin about the field and he said this, “We were fortunate the school board helped us to make it safer and better looking.” Claiborne almost missed out on a playoff game during their championship run due to the conditions so it’s a welcome addition to help keep players safe.
When it comes to football, Medlin said this, “I am excited. We took some lumps last season having to play freshmen and sophomores, but they stepped in and helped us a lot. They are another year older and those lessons they learned last year will start paying off for us.”
The Zone asked Medlin what side of the ball was leading and he replied, “The defense is ahead and it usually is at this point but it’s really hard to tell until we get those pads on and start hitting. We start our camp next week and getting those pads on will tell us more.”
Medlin then talked about what excites him about this team, “We have a really awesome group of players, they are good friends and they don’t need begged to get effort.”
A downside according to Medlin is player count, “We have 40 kids coming out and of course we would like to have more so we can increase our depth but we will work with the kids that are coming out and do our best with them.”
The Bulldogs have an open date the first Friday of the 2022 season but will go on the road week two and play a good Union County Patriots team, August 26. Below are a few photos from practice by AE.
