Springdale Owls versus HMMS Red Devils

The Red Devils and the Owls met on the hardwood, November 22, for two games of varsity basketball.

The first game featured the Lady Owls and the Lady Red Devils. Horace Maynard girls were expected to win on paper and the Lady Owls were working to spring the upset. Horace Maynard put the first points on the board and led 8-0 after one period of play. During the second period, Springdale finally put points on the scoreboard but were still giving up too many. At the end of the first half the score was 22-5. Coming out of the locker room Horace Maynard continued to score but at a lesser pace. After three periods the score was 30-9. The Lady Owls were defeated by the final score of 38-12. Springdale was led by Maci Short with six points. Bella Cadle had three, Olivia Rose had two and Delaney Nickell had one point. HMMS was led by Shelby Queener with 18 points. The Volunteer Golf Carts Player of the Game was Maci Short. Congratulations Maci!

Up next was the varsity boys contest and Springdale spotted the Red Devils five quick points before knocking down a three-pointer. The Owls cut the lead down to 8-5 after the first period. The start of the second was all Owls and they ran out to a 17-8 lead causing a Red Devil timeout.  The first half ended with Springdale leading 22-14. When the teams left the locker room Springdale continued to stay out front and led 35-17 going into the final period. The Red Devils offense struggled to keep Springdale’s pace in the final period and the Owls took victory by the final score of 48-35. Leading the Owls in scoring was Owen Medlin with 16. Blake Gilbert had 12. Chase Robinette had eight, Emery Keiter had seven and Will Compton had five. The Red Devils were led by Jasper Brown with 12.
