The Lady Bulldogs, fresh off a round one tournament win last night versus Cherokee, had the monumental task of defeating the Lady Green Devils of Greeneville, February 18, to advance in the TSSAA District 2-3A basketball tournament. Claiborne entered the game as the underdog, but even with a loss, they would be in the consolation game against the loser of today’s Cocke County versus Grainger game, February 20, at 6 PM.
Greeneville started out dropping threes, and Claiborne countered with Allie Jones, Taylor Pressnell, Jordan Fultz, and Hannah Fugate, Emma Myatt and at the three-minute mark, the score was 16-12. Greeneville continued to shoot lights out and after one period of play led 25-15. Claiborne pulled to within 10 at one point, but the Green Devils stroked another three-pointer and at the half led 36-22.
Claiborne needed a big run coming out of the locker room, and they scored first but then watched Greeneville bust two three-pointers. At the 4:53 mark, Greeneville had made a run, making the score 51-26. The Lady Green Devils kept scoring and, by the end of the period, held a comfortable lead at 63-26. Claiborne only scored four points during the third period. The final period featured a running clock and Greeneville took the win 75-30.
Claiborne was led in scoring by Allie Jones with 10, Taylor Pressnell had seven, Jordan Fultz had six, Hannah Fugate had three, Addie Brooks scored two and two others had a single point each including Emma Myatt and Jacey Ferguson. Lauren Bailey led Greeneville with 28 and Dalaina Martin scored 18.
The Heartland Real Estate Player of the Game was Jordan Fultz. Congratulations Jordan!
