January 11- Cumberland Gap High School announced a new Head Football Coach.
Nick Nash, former assistant coach at Claiborne High School, will take over the program from Brett McPherson.
The Zone spoke with Nash over the phone, and he said this, “I’m very excited for this opportunity, and I have to thank the administration at CGHS for their trust.” Nash added, “I look forward to practicing and meeting the kids and getting in the weight room.”
The Zone then asked Nash if this was a dream job of his, and he replied, “Yes, growing up in Cumberland Gap, raising my kids here, it has been a dream job of mine. I love Cumberland Gap football and I consider this opportunity a blessing from the Lord. It all happens on His time.”
When asked about his style of football, Nash described it this way, “You have to keep in mind the kind of kids you have, but our offense will be run and shoot, speed and space; I’ll let our talented athletes be athletes. On defense, you know how I was at Claiborne. (Laughing) We will get after it like our heads are on fire.”
The Zone gave Nash an opportunity to speak directly to the parents, Panther Nation, and community, “I’m excited, very excited to be here, nobody will out work me because it’s my community that I live in and will die in. Our program will move forward, and players will grow and develop, getting better every day.”
His staff will be assembled soon and may feature up to nine assistants, but definitely seven. More on the assistant coaches will be provided later.
