Claiborne High School, May 10-

The Cumberland Gap Panthers took an early lead during the first game of the 2021 District baseball tournament against rival Claiborne. It was during the second inning that the Bulldogs made their move. They dropped six runs on the scoreboard and took a 6-1 lead which stood until the last half of the fourth inning.

Claiborne added three more runs making the score 9-3 and all they had to do was to just keep the Panthers from scoring. In total, The Bulldogs used five pitchers including Sunny Smith, Tyler Myatt, Chase Foster, Challen Massengill and Joe Houser. Massengill struck out the most Panther batters with four.

Cumberland Gap pitched Wilder and Cochran. Wilder struck out three Bulldogs.

Chase Foster and Tyler Myatt both had two RBI and Dylan Foster, Zack Bailey and Wesley Brooks each had one RBI. Claiborne had 12 hits during the contest.

With the 9-3 win, the Bulldogs will move on to round two to play at Greeneville, May 11. With the loss, Cumberland Gap sadly ended their season.
