Claiborne softball hottest team in district, defeats Grainger 9-1 Video: Fugate home run shot

Grainger High School, May 12-

One day after shocking the Greeneville Lady Green Devils on the road, Claiborne had to travel to Grainger to play another potent team in the Lady Grizzlies.

The hottest team in the district stayed hot with the help of great hitting at the plate. They scored a single run in the top of the third and then the home team tied it in the bottom half.

Claiborne’s bats woke up again with doubles from Lillie Cox and Maddison Lynch and suddenly the Lady Bulldogs had opened up a 5-1 advantage.

Emma Myatt once again was pitching from the circle and she was outstanding. Myatt never got frustrated even when calls on close plays went against her team.

CHS added one quick run in the fifth but was looking for more when Hannah Fugate stepped up to the plate and ripped a shot over the center field fence with two on base.

Leading 9-1, Claiborne only needed to get three outs. The Lady Bulldog’s defense held and Myatt finished her great night with three quick outs and another win.

With the win, the Lady Bulldogs move into the District Championship Game against a yet to be determined opponent, May 14 with Grainger as host.
