Gutsy effort by the Lady Panthers falls short in District Tournament opener

Claiborne High School,  May 7-

Cumberland Gap Lady Panthers rolled into Lady Bulldogs territory for the first round of the 2012 District Softball Tournament.

The Lady Panthers came in with two key players giving it a gutsy try despite suffering from injuries.

Pitcher and key hitter Alana Bean was playing with a badly hurt foot and equally potent at the plate, Jada Lawson, came in with a broken thumb. The two were responsible for much of the Lady Panthers scoring during their record setting season.

Claiborne got the lead when Lillie Cox was hit by pitch with bases loaded. The Lady Bulldogs scored four during the first inning and then kept the scoring going during the second and third innings with the lineup doing their part.

It was 14-0 when the Lady Panthers scored their first run by a single oddly enough from the injured Lawson then she later scored on a fielder’s choice for Cumberland Gap’s only run.

The final score was 14-1 with Claiborne moving on to the second round with the winner of Greeneville versus West Greene.
