Panthers middle school football opens 2021 season, Watch: Goal line stand video

Video: The Panthers defense finishes a goal line stand just before the first half ends.

Cumberland Gap Middle School hosted the Eagleton Royals, August 12. The Panthers had the ball to open the game but had to punt to Eagleton after their drive stalled. The Royals drove down the field and led 6-0. The conversion attempt failed.

With 1:04 left in the first, Cumberland Gap returned it into Royals territory but a block in the back took it back to Panthers 30. The Panthers offense ripped a nice run down the Panthers sideline up near midfield but ended facing a fourth and long, Eagleton made the play and took over on downs.

Eagleton reached the one foot line on their next drive but as the half ended the Panthers had completed a tough goal line stand. The score at the half remained 6-0.

On the second half kickoff the Panthers nearly got a recovery but Eagleton somehow found the ball and started their offense near midfield. This drive stalled and the Panthers had their chance on offense but couldn’t get the scoring drive completed. The Royals finished off the third period still leading 6-0.

Eagleton continued their drive in the fourth period and a long pass play allowed the Royals to move the scoreboard again. The point after try was no good and the score with 6:18 left was 12-0.

The Panthers fumbled the ensuing kick and gave the ball back to Eagleton but the Panthers defense responded by picking a pass off and they handed the pigskin over to their offense. The drive started with a run and a penalty against the Royals; however, Cumberland Gap wasn’t able to get points on the board and the Royals didn’t add to their lead. At the end, it was the visiting Royals  winning 12-0.
