CYFC Bulldogs win two out of three against North View

The future football stars were on display at R.O. Giles Field, October 9. The first game of three at the Claiborne Youth Football Conference game day featured the Grasscutters battling the North View Cougars.

Claiborne got on the board early with Cruz Poore scoring two touchdowns off  silent count, quarterback sneaks. The conversions both failed and Claiborne led 12-0. At the half the score remained 12-0. During the second half, the Cougars took the kickoff and set up their offense. A couple plays later, they broke a long run and scored the next play. The conversion failed but the score was 12-6.

Dalton Ray then went 50 yards after the kickoff for the Bulldogs who extended their lead out to 18-0 after the conversion try failed. The third quarter ended with the Dawgs enjoying an 18-6 lead. Neither team scored in the final period and the score was 18-6 after the clock ticked off to all zeros.

Game two featured the Super Grasscutters and it didn’t take long for the Bulldogs to find the end zone. After a recovery on the kickoff James Isaac Hagerman ran to the near side and then back to the far side of the field and outran the Cougars defense for the score. The conversion failed but Claiborne led 6-0. North View tried to answer but the drive stopped on the Dawgs 25.

Claiborne used the last few minutes of the first quarter to score again but the conversion attempt failed. Hagerman had his second TD of the night. Claiborne led 12-0 with six seconds left in the first. The quarter ended with a Bulldogs kickoff. The Bulldogs drives failed during the second quarter as did the Cougars and the two teams went into the break with the score 12-0, Dawgs.

During the third, Cash Lindsey found the end zone at 3:15 and Hagerman added the conversion to increase the scoreboard to 19-0. North View broke a run but the ball carrier was ran down by a fast Hagerman. The third quarter ended 19-0 with the Cougars looking to score. When the final quarter got underway, North View scored their first points and the point after conversion failed but they had some hope at 19-6. They went for and recovered an onside kick.

As the clock was nearing the three minute mark, the Bulldogs helped the Cougars with a face mask at midfield; however, the drive stopped and the Bulldogs had one last chance to score. The clock went to zero as they were driving but they finished with a 19-6 victory.

The final game of the night was the Pee Wees and the Cougars struck first and added the extra point conversion to lead 7-0. The Cougars had a touchdown taken back due to a penalty but a great throw on the next play found its target for six more. They added the extra point conversion to lead 14-0 with three minutes remaining in the first quarter. The Dawgs and Cougars traded fumbles before and flipped the field after the quarter ended, Cougars led 14-0. The first play of the second was another Cougars touchdown. The point after conversion pass was good and the score was quickly 21-0.

The Bulldogs offense looked very down on their next drive and it ended in a turnover. The Cougars started on the Dawgs 25 and a few plays later found pay dirt. The extra point conversion try failed but the score was 27 points in favor of the Cougars. The Bulldogs offense took the field trying to get anything going but trouble between the quarterback and center exchange really kept them from moving the ball. The half ended 27-0 in favor of the Cougars.

During the second half, the Cougars stopped Claiborne and then on offense scored six more on a long run. The extra point conversion was good and the score increased to 34-0. A running clock was the Bulldogs friend in this game. The Cougars were bigger and faster. The Bulldogs struggled to get anything going offensively. At 2:26 remaining, North View scored again and after the extra point conversion try failed the score was 40-0. The game ended with the same score.
