NHRA at Bristol sets track records and more, Salinas and DeJoria big winners

Cooler weather greeted race fans during the October 15-17 Camping World, NHRA Thunder Valley Nationals at Bristol Dragway in Bristol, Tennessee. The event is usually held in June during Father’s Day weekend but Covid related changes had it scheduled for October. With the cold air, records fell and times were ultra-fast.

Mike Salinas left Steve Torrence in his wake on the way to a top fuel win.

Mike Salinas defeated Steve Torrence for the Top Fuel Dragster win while it was Alexis DeJoria defeating J.R. Todd in the funny Car final. In Pro Stock Motorcycle it was Angelle Sampey over Karen Stoffer for the second win by a woman on the day. In the Pro Modified Class JR Gray defeated Jose Gonzalez but it was Gonzales clinching the 2021 E3 Pro Mod World Championship.

Steve Torrence remains the Top Fuel point leader over Justin Ashley, Ron Capps leads JR Todd by a single point in Funny Car and Matt Smith is ahead of Steve Johnson by 56 points with only two races remaining.
