H.Y. Livesay sweeps day one JV tournament action

The 2021 Claiborne County junior varsity basketball tournament sponsored by Hearthside Bank was held at Claiborne High and hosted by Forge Ridge starting, December 6.

The opening night of games featured the number two seeded H.Y. Livesay Lady Eagles versus Clairfield Lady Eagles on the girl’s side of the bracket. HY came out with the pressure defense and got a few easy layups to roll out to an 11-0 advantage. By the end of the opening period HY led 21-0. Livesay kept scoring the basketball during the second period and Clairfield had several good looks but the basketball just wouldn’t fall the hoop. At the half, Livesay led 33-0. Livesay scored six more during the third to lead 39-0. The final score was 43-1. Leading Livesay in scoring was Allie Owens with 17. Amillya Smith had 12, Tinley Jo Stamper with six, Natalie Davis had four, Peyton Owens and Kinely Collins both had two. Brooke Partin scored Clairfield’s only point.

The final game was another two versus seven contest on the boy’s side with the same two schools. This game started tied at two and from that point Livesay went on a run with 19 unanswered. The score going into the second period was 21-2. Livesay scored the basketball well during the second and extended their lead out to 37-5. Coming out of the halftime break, Livesay added eight during the third and Clairfield added three. Going into the fourth period the score was 45-8. Livesay closed the game out strong and won 45-10. Leading HY in scoring was Koalton Cupp with 13, Jacob Tinnel had 10, Cason Adams had eight, Bryson Gibson had six, Noah Fultz had four, Alex Booth along with Hudson Cadle finished the total out with two points each. Conner Monday led Clairfield with nine and Brooke Partin had a single point.
