SMMS and Powell Valley split varsity wins

Soldier’s Memorial Middle School traveled to Powell Valley, January 10. The Lady Blue Devils were able to win 25-14. During the first period both teams played as equals with SMMS leading 7-6. Powell Valley lost paced during the second period and only scored two but gave up nine. The score at the half was 16-8. SMMS scored eight during the second half and the Lady Indians scored only six. The final score was 25-14. Leading the Lady Blue Devils was Emma Ferguson with 13, CJ Hatfield had five, Jalynn Brooks had three, Jossilyn Robbins had two as did Carlie Laprade to complete the total. Powell Valley was led by Zoey Nelson with eight and three others finished with two: Megan Weaver, Mahala Walker and Brandy Brandscomb.

SMMS lost a very close boys varsity contest. The final score was 38-36. The Blue Devils were only behind 18-15 at the half but couldn’t find a way to get the comeback victory. A 21-16 second half by Powell Valley was the Blue Devils downfall. Leading the Indians to victory was Kolton Goins with 20, Colby Weaver had nine, Braydon Boyd had four, Hunter Ellison had three and Bryson Penny had two. Two Blue Devils scored 11 points including Eric Ferguson and Kaden Lovin. Kris Ford had seven, Aden Roark had five and Harley A. had two.
