Lady Panthers season ends at Happy Valley

The Cumberland Gap Lady Panthers basketball team played deep into the post season tournament but a great season ended at Happy Valley, February 25.

Abbie Fultz opened scoring for the Gap to make the score 2-2. Happy Valley added three making it 5-2 in the first.
Emrey Glover forced a turnover and Abbie Fultz nailed a three-pointer to tie the game at five. The Lady Warriors then dropped a three at 2:01 to make 8-5.
Kylie Fultz was called for a walk down low on the next possession and then called for a foul down low back on defense. Happy Valley hit one of two making it 9-5 with 1:30 remaining in the first.
Glover was then fouled but missed both free throws with 1:17 remaining in the opening period, 9-5.
Abbie then got a steal and outlet pass to Glover for a layup to make it 9-7. Glover followed that up with a deep three to go up 10-9 with 17 seconds left in the first.
Happy Valley answered with a basket inside as time expired in the quarter. Cumberland Gap was down by one at 11-10.
When the second period began, Happy Valley dropped in seven quick points before Abbie Fultz broke the run with a basket that made the scoreboard read 18-12. Glover scored on a layup with 2:57 left in the half and Abbie scored down low making the score, 22-16, then added another basket. The halftime score was 24-18.
The third period began with Foster at the stripe and she knocked down one of two, 24-19. Happy Valley then added four unanswered before Gracie Nash blocked a shot and then Kylie rebounded and started the fast break that ended with a Glover layup and the harm. Glover hit her and-one opportunity that made it 28-22. Nash went down to injury with 2:09 with the score 30-24.
The two teams swapped turnovers and the period ended with the Gap hanging close, 34-26.
During the final period, Happy Valley made a run that ended in a 50-39 victory. Nash, Fultz and Jaden Brock added points but it wasn’t meant to be for the Lady Panthers. There were fans unhappy with the officiating and the post game actions of the hosts but it didn’t take away from the great season the Lady Panthers had.
