CHS softball runs away from Lady Patriots

Tuesday afternoon, Claiborne traveled to Jefferson County to battle the Patriots. The two teams played at Claiborne High last Friday and the Bulldogs and the Dogs eeked out a 6 – 5 win. Tuesday’s game wouldn’t be as close. Bulldogs opened up scoring one run in the opening frame and never looked back. The Bulldog bats came alive in the third as they placed four more runs to take a 5 – 0 lead. Jeff Co.tried to climb back into it with a run in the fourth, but in the top of the fifth inning, Lillie Cox lead off the inning with a solo blast over the center field fence and Kate Combs sacrificed Maddie Lynch home to make it 7 – 1 after five. The Patriots added another run in the sixth, but the last two frames saw the Bulldogs score five more runs. Emma Myatt finished out another great performance to secure her third win on the season. She finished giving up five hits and two runs while striking out 16 and walking one.
Lillie Cox stood out at the plate for the Bulldogs reaching base safely on all four of her plate appearances. She went 3 – 4 with a 1B, 2B, and a HR, driving in a season high 4 RBI. Due to her efforts,  Cox is the Walker & Walker Construction Player of the Game.  Congratulations Lillie.

The Zone thanks:
