Mitchell Burke made his hero proud Saturday night at Tazewell Speedway. It was the Jim Arnwine memorial and there was no doubt Jim was smiling big from heaven as he watched Burke take the checkers in the Sportsman Class feature. The Burke family and the Arnwine family had a special bond and Mitchell enjoyed every moment they shared.
The Zone asked Burke how it felt to win the memorial race and he stated, “Man it felt great to win it; definitely was a special race to win we had changed everything but the driver this winter trying something different.”
When asked if winning the race was the main goal he added, “Our goal was to place top five and not tear anything up but after feeling how comfortable the car was and being able to put it anywhere on the track and not mess up a rhythm was spectacular and I’m not gonna lie I was pretty emotional after the checkered flag flew.”
“I didn’t even know I was getting a big check until Brady laid it on the hood and it really sunk in. I miss Jim every day and especially every race day not being able to see that big smile and his hearing his quick wit is definitely a tear jerker but I couldn’t do any of this without my dad and mom and all my crew my wife Katie and kids Abby and Bryson and my sponsors.”
