The new football season is almost upon us, and the Bulldogs are making final preparations. Claiborne has a unique schedule with only four home games all scheduled towards the end of the season.
The Bulldogs have a week one bye and then on August 26 open their season against Union County on the road. Weeks three, four, five and six are all away games at West Greene, Northview Academy, Unicoi and Thomas Walker. The first home game will be against Johnson County, September 30. October 7 and 14 will be at home against Unaka and back on the road to Chuckey-Doak. Grainger comes to town, October 21 and the final regular season game will be against rival Cumberland Gap at home, October 28. This schedule is very tentative due to the fact that the field renovations at Claiborne High are still being completed. The Bulldogs host a football jamboree August 12, and it will be held at R.O. Giles Field.
Coach Medlin seems to like his young team, but he understands they learned lots as freshmen. The quarterback competition is still open, but the running back spot will be a bright one. Everything else on the offense and the line appears strong but the linemen will be splitting time on both sides of the ball. Defensively, Claiborne wishes they only had more depth. The kicking team will likely be more consistent as it showed flashes of greatness at times last season. Overall, Medlin likes where his team is but will learn more next week at the jamboree.
