Panthers defeat Bulldogs in middle school football action, 30-14

The two teams met in fellowship after the game.

The Cumberland Gap Middle School Panthers traveled into Bulldog territory October 6 to do battle on the gridiron. The Panthers came in with one loss and the Bulldogs hoped to spring the upset.

Claiborne kicked to the Panthers to start the game and Pearman soon scored the first points of the game. After the conversion was good, the Panthers held an early lead at 8-0 and that score held until the second quarter began.

The Panthers added another touchdown as Mills scored and after a good conversion, they led 16-0; however, Claiborne got on the board with a Stone touchdown, but the conversion attempt failed making the score 16-6.

Pearman ran in his second touchdown of the night and the conversion was good, the score at the half was 24-6.

The third quarter was scoreless for both teams, but the Panthers defense struck first in the fourth quarter on a pick-six by Weaver. This time the conversion failed, and the Panthers led 30-6.

Stone got his second touchdown for the Bulldogs and after the conversion was good, CMS was down 30-14. They tried the onside kick, and it was recovered by the Panthers. The game clocked ticked down and the Panthers had won the rivalry game 30-14.

Cumberland Gap will now turn their focus to the playoffs.

The Panthers offensive player of the game was earned by Jaden Pearman. The defensive player of the game went to James Polly.
