Rick Roop honors late Tennessee State Trooper Randall Massengill

Rick Roop gives a tribute to Trooper Randall Massengill one year since his passing last year, January 2022.

Between Tazewell and Harrogate, Tennessee at the England cemetery just beyond the Powell River bridge you can hear the sounds of taps being played on an announcing trumpet just ahead in the distance. The high-sounding instrument rings softly amongst the mountain tops, across the hills, and the beautiful countryside, tall trees, fields, grasses and many cattle act as a backdrop during this solemn occasion to honor one of our beloved first responders. Also, you can recognize an echo far away in the distance giving tribute to Trooper Randall Massengill.

It’s not just a song says Roop, but a signal that states here lies someone special and worthy to be mentioned as one of our good citizens who lived in Claiborne County. A blessed person who enjoyed living here and loved living life to its fullest. Trooper Massengill was a gifted musician, songwriter, and singer who made the stage, recording studio, or live music event the place where anyone would want to enthusiastically attend. It was a treat to hear Randall playing in church or at venues throughout East Tennessee However, more than his awesome musical talents that were on display, it was his personality that made the distinct difference. No one was too big or small no feelings of less importance or being spoken down to when you were in his company. Randall had the gifted ability to lift us up higher than we were; able to make us feel special and accomplished and always with a big smile. Thanks to Vic Graves for an inspirational prayer and memorial message. Thanks to all who attended and to those who were there in spirit.
