Tennessee Eagles comeback attempt falls short, 5-1

April 17- Rutledge Middle School traveled to Cumberland Gap to battle the Tennessee Eagles middle school baseball team. Rutledge went up 3-0 in top of first but the Eagles rallied scoring one run in the bottom of the first, 3-1. In the top of the second, the Pioneers scored one more run making it 4-1. In the bottom of the second the Eagles had something working but left one on base, still 4-1.

During the top of the third, base running cost the Pioneers as they ran the bases into two consecutive outs. In the Eagles half of the third, the home team once again missed an opportunity by leaving two runners on base. The score was still 4-1. During the top of the fourth it was Rutledge’s turn to leave ducks on the pond as they stranded two on the bases. The Eagles went down in order in the bottom of the fourth. The 4-1 score lasted until the final inning. Rutledge plated an insurance run and loaded the bases. The Eagles got out of the jam but now had to do work at the plate in order to win or extend the ball game. The Eagles loaded the bases but failed to get a timely hit and the comeback attempt failed. The final score was 5-1.

The Nikki Carter Insurance Agency Player of the Game was Neil Bunch.
