The Zone’s Veteran of the Month as presented by Jon Smith Subs in Harrogate is Bill Ed Johnson. Johnson saw combat in Korea and earned several awards and medals including Combat Action Ribbon, Korean Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Two Purple Heart, Republic of Korea Presidential Unit Citation, and the Republic of Korea War Service Medal. Johnson was killed in action in Korea but immediately carried the awesome title of Kentucky Hero. He served as a Marine, Company F Second Battalion. Those who knew Johnson said he was a very talented football player. Sadly, his body was never returned from Korea.
