Lady Bulldogs soccer impressive in season opener, shut out Lady Chiefs 10-0

August 15- Claiborne High soccer hosted Cherokee to begin the season after rain canceled the home opener, August 14. The weather was sunny, but a breeze helped keep the players and fans cool. The opening 40 minutes belonged to Claiborne as the Lady Bulldogs scored and scored often on a wet pitch. Riley Kiefer scored the opening goal and then added her second later in the half. Emma Hoskins scored Claiborne’s second goal followed quickly by a goal from Jaylen Pressnell.  Abby Daniels added a fourth goal and Haley Johnson added a fifth. The Lady Bulldogs remained on fire and Payton Johnson went back-to-back with the sixth and seventh goal. Allie Jones netted the ninth goal and Mackenzie Goins kicked the final goal in at the 10′-06″ mark and at the half Claiborne won the matchup, 10-0 and played only the first 40 minutes. Jada Rosson was perfect in net and remained in the game to record the shutout. CHS had seven assists: Abby Daniels, Riley Kiefer, Jasmin Mize, Jaylen Pressnell, Mallory Parker, Haley Johnson and Leah Buchanan.

Coach Sorke said this about his team’s performance, “I’m proud of the way they played today. They were more patient with the ball and moved better compared to the jamboree.”

The First Century Bank Player of the Game was Mackenzie Goins.
