November 17- It was time for Claiborne High School basketball to have the 2023-24 home opener. West Greene was the opponent, and Claiborne made the best of it. The junior varsity boys game started off the night, and Claiborne cruised to a 60-28 victory.
The next game featured the Lady Bulldogs Varsity team versus the Lady Buffaloes, and this one was the best game of the night. Claiborne took control early and led 12-6 after one period. West Greene then stole the momentum away and made a run that allowed them to lead the game at half, 17-15. West Greene came out of the locker room and remained out front going into the final period. A one-point advantage evaporated for the Lady Buffaloes as Claiborne seemed to want it more. When the clock had ticked down to all zeros, Claiborne had won, 38-32. Brinkley Hollin led Claiborne with 12, Allie Jones had nine, Rhea Ware scored four as did Carlye Hall. Channing Buis had three, Carli Laprade had three, and Avalynn Cook, along with Ily Bussell, had two. For her efforts offensively and defensively, Hollin earned the Heartland Real Estate Player of the Game honors. *All score totals unofficial.

The final game featured the varsity boys teams. C.J. Cox provided the spark that allowed Claiborne to pull ahead. Cox hit three, three-pointers, and the team responded well to the fast start. Ethan Cupp began to score, and by the end of the first period, Claiborne held an eight-point lead, 18-10. The Bulldogs extended their advantage and led at halftime, 32-19. It seemed everyone wanted to shoot the three ball, and Brady Hamlin joined in with two three-pointers. Cole Holt had one, as did Evan Thomas. Claiborne hit 10 three-pointers on the way to a 59-43 victory. Leading the Bulldogs in scoring was Cupp with 23 points. Cox had 17, and Hamlin had six. Holt and Thomas both had five. Josh Bolton added two, and Kaden Willams scored once at the free throw line. For his efforts, including a fast start shooting the three, C.J. Cox earned the Claiborne Health and Wellness Player of the Game. *All score totals unofficial.
