Cumberland Gap High School hosted Anderson County for two games of varsity basketball. The Lady Mavericks and Lady Panthers took the court to start the night and Cumberland Gap had little trouble getting out front and staying. The game featured three lead changes early, but the home team led after every period and at the end winning, 50-35. Unofficial scores are as follows. Emrey Glover led CGHS with 14 but close behind was Callie Hoskins who had 12 points and 15 rebounds. Hayden Beeler had eight, Gracie Nash was all over the floor defensively with six steals plus six points. Jenna Middleton also scored six, and Brynlee Foster scored four. Lowe and Mustard both had double figures for Anderson County.
The Nichole Goins, Heartland Real Estate Player of the game was Callie Hoskins with special nods going to Nash and Glover.
Cumberland Gap and Anderson County also tipped off Friday in a varsity boys’ basketball game at Cumberland Gap High School. The Panthers stayed close on the scoreboard during one period of play, 16-14, but the Mavs opened the game up during the second and led at the half, 42-21. The young Panthers seemed shell shocked but tried to make a few runs; however, turnovers cost them greatly. At game’s end, Anderson County left with a 72-35 victory. Leading CGHS in scoring was Brady Harris with 13, Noah Yonts and Kolton Goins had seven each. Four others scored two points including Ethan Powell, Kaleb Powers, Grayson Cook and Gavin Barton. The Mavs were led by Craig with 23. * All scores are unofficial.
