When the Powell Valley Indians lost to Hancock and finished as runner-up in the district there was a fire lit deep in their souls. The Indians stormed through the sectional tournament and after defeating Oneida, they were sectional champs and looking directly at the state tournament. 43-39 was the final score at Harriman High and the Indians were led by Braden Lane with 11-points. Jacob Tinnel also reached double-figures with 10. Colby Weaver had nine, Luke Lloyd had six, Hunter Ellison had four, and Korbin Goins threw down three points. Oneida led at the half, 23-18, but the Indians were not to be denied. A 13-7 third period was the one that started the Powell Valley comeback and gave them the confidence needed to take the sectional championship, punching their ticket to the TMSAA Class A semi-finals against Bulls Gap Middle at Rockvale High, February 9.
