Lady Panthers come from behind to win big, 16-5.

March 18- Cumberland Gap defeated Washburn 16-5.

The weather was partly sunny with a few moments of warmth but each time the Cumberland Gap wind gusted; the temperature plummeted. It was flat out cold when the Lady Panthers and Lady Pirates took the diamond at Cumberland Gap High School. Washburn took the lead behind an RBI single by Lilly Cook early in the first inning. During the Lady Panthers portion of the inning, it was Maddie Stevens doing the damage with a two-run double. Going into the second inning Washburn led 3-2. The Lady Pirates scored once during the second and third, but they weren’t able to plate runs during the fourth inning. Through four and a half innings, the score was tied at five. The Lady Panthers scored zero runs in the second but scored three in the third to tie the game. Cumberland Gap exploded during the bottom of the fourth. They added 11 runs to their total which ended with a Hayden Beeler walk-off, two-run homerun to center. The 10-run rule ended the game at 16-5. The final stats were Helton (two singles and two RBI), Beeler (two-run homerun), Olivia Baumgardner (two singles), Maddie Stevens (two doubles and four RBI), Karlie Johnson (single and one RBI), Capps (single with 1 RBI), Lacey Gulley (triple with three RBI and Cheyenne Monday (single). * All stats are unofficial.
