Claiborne Bulldogs downed by Grizzlies, 43-14

August 22- Claiborne traveled across Clinch Mountain and down into the land of the Grizzlies. A new era began with Coach Dalton Lee and his team of Bulldogs playing their first official game of 2025; however, the Grizzlies were well prepared and defended their home field, winning 43-14. The game was delayed over an hour for lightning and at that time, Claiborne was down only 16-0.

The game resumed and a short halftime break was implemented. Still behind 16-0, Claiborne needed to score points. They got their first touchdown of the night with 9:35 remaining in the game. Aden Roark scored, and the Grainger lead was whittled down to 29-6. On Claiborne’s eighth drive Wyatt Hall scored with 3:18 remaining and after the conversion was good, they trailed 36-14. The tired Bulldog defense played well at times but gave up another long run, this time, to the backup quarterback. The final score was 43-14.

Although the first game of Lee’s tenure as coach didn’t have the result they hoped for, there were some good things for the team to build on.

The Whitaker Insurance Agency Defensive Player of the Game was Owen Stone. The Danny England Motors Offensive Player of the Game was Wyatt Hall. Here are a few photos from the game by The Zone- AE.
